Halloween at the campground

Another great day in our 'Happy Place'!  We went to Smithville to see what this 'Oktoberfest' is all about.  Smithville is right on Rt. 9.  We are right now in New Gretna. A trip that should have took about 15 minutes ended up taking an hour.  Endless cars all via the Oktoberfest.  Parking was OK, we did find a spot.
So you'd think Oktoberfest right?  Bratwurst, Oompta music, German beer, etc.  WRONG!  It was Coors and Nathan's.  Some other fried stuff, like funnel cakes, fries, and other American, as well as Mexican foods.  Lots of booth with crafts and other interesting things.
Back at the campground the Halloween fun began.  Everyone decorated the sites and the kids were trick or treating. hay rides and other cool activities were on the agenda.

Chrissy's 40th birthday

We had a nice little party for Chrissy's birthday.  Just family.  Dennis ordered and picked up pizza and the birthday cake was an ice cream cake.  The pizza was excellent and needless to say that I enjoyed the ice cream cake too.

Peace & quiet

We love being at the campground during the week.  The weekends are busy and yes, they are a lot of fun.  However, I do love the silence during the week.  As of May 1st 2018 we'll have a new site.  With the view of the water.  The site is much larger than our current one.  Right now there is not a lot of parking space.  Even for one car it's a little tight.
We took a walk today and enjoyed this warm September day.

35th Annual Ocean County Decoy & Gunning Show

I was looking on line for something to do today and found out that this weekend was the 35th Annual Ocean County Decoy & Gunning Show.  I always wanted to go in the past and today we finally made it.  We parked the Pineland Regional High school to catch the shuttle.  It was easy and we didn't have to wait long for the shuttle.  The buses were comfortable and air conditioned. Best of all they were free and so was the show. It was great and the weather was super.  Lots of dogs!

New York City

Today was my day with my handsome grandson!  Luke and I had a wonderful time.  We went to to the 86th floor of the Empire State Building, Bryant Park, Time Square, Rockefeller Center. the Lego Store, the M&M store, Game Stop, etc.  All in all  the day was perfect! We walked so much!  Too bad is that we both were so pooped that we were looking forward to sit back on the bus.

Alyvia Resbin

Little Alyvia turned 1!  We had a wonderful time celebrating Annette's daughter Alyvia's 1st birthday.  It was a perfect day to have the party outside.  Good time, good food and great company!  Finally got to meet Christina's kids in person.  It seems like I knew them all along.  First through Charlotte's stories and then of course Facebook later on.

Labor Day

Labor Day was the best day of the weekend.  The sun was out the whole day, the temperatures were perfect.  We decided to take a ride to Cattus Island.  While there we ran into Sean Wistuba an years d his girlfriend with their children.  I wouldn’t have recognized him at all.  He wore a baseball cap and the last time I saw him in person was when he was about 12 years old.  Sure he is my FB friend, but it’s different as when you see the person in the real world.
We walked about an hour and a half and it was great.
The butterflies of the butterfly garden must have migrated already.  There weren’t many flowers left an only one lonely butterfly.
We walked to the bay and there were quite a few boats out there enjoying a perfect Labor Day.
Time to eat after the walk off the Outback Steak House.
All in all….it was a great day.

Fortescue NJ

Had a great visit with Lynn at her house in Fortescue NJ.  It's so very peaceful there and the bay was gorgeous.  The weather was gorgeous!  What a wonderful place far, far away from everything.

Went to the playground with Elisabeth.  She couldn't wait to get there and I was happy that she had fun......until she tried the monkey bars one more time.  When she came down she showed her hands to me and they were all blistered inside.  To make is worse, the blisters all popped open.  We went home to cut of the excess skin and put on some healing creme.  Poor Elisabeth, she was all bumped out. :-(

Weekend with Boo

This weekend Elisabeth spent the weekend with us at the campground.  She loves the lake!  So much better than the pool. I get that, because I love the lake too.  The water is awesome.

We also went to the Cape May Zoo and had a great time.  It was pretty crowded, but still nice.  The weather was perfect!

Bass River State Forest

Our campground is only about three miles away from Bass River State Forest.  I never expected it to be such a beautiful park and campground.  The campsite were very nice, large enough and well kept.
No power or sewer and the water comes out of a spigot.  We did like it though.  The beach was also awesome.

Pirate boat race

We went to the campground just for one night to participate in this weeks clambake.  It was a potluck dinner and we truly enjoyed it.  After the dinner we hung out with John Blair and his family.  Good times! BTW, little Johnny Blair came into second place at the race.

50th Wedding Anniversay

We celebrated our anniversary very quiet.  Just the family.  It was what we wanted.  The kids treated us for a yummy dinner at the Anchor Inn in Ocean Gate.  The food was good, we had a good time and got some gorgeous flowers too.

Today was a big day for the family.  Dennis got his prosthesis and we are thrilled!  So bitter-sweet still sad that it happened to my baby in the first place, yet so proud that he came this far. He is in good spirits and never gave up.

First trip in the canoe

We are here at the campground since Saturday now.  It's quiet, because all the weekenders are gone. We decide to blow up the canoe and take it to the lake.  I don't have an easy time to get in and out, but I managed.  Once we were on the lake I felt somewhat uncomfortable.  Not really scared, yet weird. The next time we go I will definitely have to take a Xanax or something.  I beliebe age is catching up with me. LOL
All in all though, it's pretty cool.

Our new summer home

I just noticed that it has been a while since I wrote last.
We arrived last Friday for the first overnight stay at our new campsite.  So far so good.  We are very comfortable because it reminds me of our old seasonal site at Fantasy Island in Sunbury PA.  People are friendly and make you feel welcome.
The campground itself feels ‘rustic’. Lots of trees.  The drives are unpaved and it is a bit dusty when people drive faster than the speed limit of 5 mph.  The lake is great.  I already went tubing on it.  Not the fast kind of tubing, just a relaxing floating type of tubing.  One of my neighbors invited me to come and she lent me one of her tubes.  Needless to say that I went out the next day to purchase my own.
Saturday night was a party for everyone at the beach and from 5:30 – 7 pm they even had an Elvis impersonator and I was one of the few ‘lucky ones’ that got his sweaty scarf.  He was good too!  So all in all….we do like it so far.

Our condo in Murrell Inlet

Before we decided we want to be seasonal campers again, we planned a trip  to Myrtle Beach with our German friends Rudi and Katrin.  On the way there we stayed one night at a La Quinta in Doswell VA.  We continued our trip the next day and arrived safe and sound at the condo we rented.  The condo looked nice on the Internet and was described well.  It was not.  It looked like someone went to a flea market to furnish the house, from chipped dishes to the furniture. You would think when someone rents out a place that is suppose to sleep 4-6 people, there would at least be enough dishes at least for 4.  There were three forks and three butter knifes, the pots had no matching lids and the Teflon frying pans were scratched and unusable.
this picture is from another apartment in the building
The dining area we read that it seats 5 people, but there were only three chairs.
In one of the reviews one person wrote that the area rugs were dirty and the landlord(lady) commented that there are no area rugs.  Funny, there are some in their advertised pictures.
If you don't look too close it is fairly clean and by that mean don't look too close.  You would also think that when you have a long day of sightseeing you want to just chill and sit comfortable.  No way are those furniture comfortable.  The pink chair with all the stuff hanging below is not usable at all.  The couch is worn and totally uncomfortable.  There was another chair that was OK.  All in all, it looked like the owner got the furniture from a flea market.
The description also said that you can sit outside to chill, etc.  The outside furniture in the back and front are filthy.  I wouldn't even let my dog sit in there.  There was an ashtray that never was emptied.
WiFi was good, TV was a different story.  There was a cable in the wall lose and we thought that must be from the cable company.  It didn't work and then we saw those "As Seen On TV" antennas. one channel, called the landlord and told her and she said that is the first time she heard this, just place the antenna in a different location and you will get more channels.  We did and yay...we got three different stations.  One of them NBC.
We weren't able to lock our windows and the door locks are a joke. Anyone is able to break in and steal our valuables.

Last day

The family spent most of Saturday together.  We all went out for breakfast and then off to Double Trouble State Park with the hope of finding some mushrooms.  Peter and I didn't feel like walking through the woods and walked around a little on our own.  I took a few pictures, including the bug that moved around some dog poop.  That was one of the grossest thing I've seen in a while. (enlarge picture)
After the park we went to Berkeley Twp.'s annual D.A.R.E. car show and finished the day with dinner at the Fortune Buffet and an after dinner cordial at home.  It was a nice day.  We brought Doris and Joerg back to Tammy's and as of today they are back in Germany.

Grounds for Scultures again

We all went to see Grounds for Sculptures.  The weather was OK.  It could have been a little more sun, but it was not raining and that works for me.
As always I took quite a few pictures.  We had fun and when it was time to go home, my feet were aching like the ones of a 70 year old bag.

A little bummed about Bum Rogers

We all went to eat at Bum Rogers.  It was good, but I truly think that their prices are too high and even though it was tasty, it wasn't as good as I expected.  Keep in mind that I grew up in a town with a large fish industry.  If you go to a restaurant in my hometown, you get sea food to die for.  the company was great and so was the time we had.  Loved having the whole family together.

My 70th Birthday

Surprise!  If anyone asks....YES!  I was totally not expecting this.  Almost everyone was there and it was some awesome party.  The biggest surprise was of course that my cousin from Germany was there.
Big shout out to my kids who organized it, especially Tammy and Dan who's house was used for the party.  I give credit to all my friends and family that kept this a secret.
I loved every single minute!
Thank you everyone!

Grounds for Sculpture

Can't get enough of the place!  Today we went on a bus trip there and the weather couldn't have been anymore perfect.  There are new displays every year, it's really never the same. There are certain ones that stay, but every corner, every path is a new surprise of some wonderful art.

Wells Mills Park

We took a ride to Wells Mills Park today.  I call it the forgotten park.  It's a very beautiful park with great trails.  Warning signs for ticks greeted us and I regretted not having any spray with me and wouldn't you know, when we got home, Peter had a tick on him. Of course we both stripped and checked for more ticks and the clothes went in the wash.

I'm psyched!

Life is good....Dennis is sitting in a wheel chair.  So good to see him sitting up and smiling.  He is so strong willed.  We are so proud!
As you all know, we lost out truck im December of 2016.  At that point we decided to give up camping and bought a car instead of a new truck.  We put the 5th wheel up for sale and that didn't work.  Now, 5 months later, we decided to become seasonal campers again.  We will be at Timberline Lake Campground in New Gretna.  We are looking forward to being there and can't wait.  Dennis found someone that will pull our 5th wheel there on June 2nd.  Can't wait!

Being grateful

Is there such a thing as the worst day of your life?  I guess you won't know until the end.....
I had about three so least that what one thinks at the time it happens.  My parent's passing, and on May 1st 2017 the motor cycle accident that Dennis had.  Here is what happened:
Dennis was on his motor cycle driving straight on Rt. 166 and and a woman made a left turn and t-boned him.
He has spine injuries and lost his left foot up to the knee, a few broken ribs and a fractured sacrum.
I am grateful that he is alive and on the road to recovery and hopefully soon, he'll be able to come home to his wife and children.
Today is Mother's Day and I am spending the day with the family at the rehab center.  I am not sad anymore....I am happy that I have two loving children.

A day at the outlets

Friday we did a lot of joy riding....just was nice.  One Saturday we wanted to go to this huge farmers/flea market, just to find out that no dogs are allowed.  So we drove all the way to Lakeland and then some.  I didn't take pictures, just enjoyed the area and the sun.
Today we decided to visit the outlet.  It was a pretty big mall and we enjoyed walking around.  Kia was in the stroller the whole time and she loved it.  Dinner at the food court.  We ate outside and it was actually pretty good.  Stromboli, salad and a Pepsi.
On the road  we saw an air boat and a truck with a huge lift.

St. Armonds - Sarasota

86 degrees!  That was on the way to Sarasota.  It later climbed up to 89 later.  We walked the whole circle.  What a different clientele.  Also nice it to be able to window shop.  Gorgeous clothes on the mannequins in the windows.  Some very high in price, some mid-range.  All in all...just beautiful.  Every restaurant has outside tables and most of them taken. I couldn't resist and had an ice cream cone from Kilwins.  Absolutely the best!  Maybe even better than Cold Stone's.

Apollo Beach

I googled for a beach that allows dogs and Apollo Beach was the one that is not too far.  We are no 'beach people' so we just wandered around.  I tried to get Kia to into the water, but she didn't like it at all.  I picker her up and just put her into an inch high water and she ran straight back to the dry sand.  Too funny though.
On the way home we stopped at Walmart; got a sub for dinner and replenished our water and beer supply.
When we got back to the hotel, I went down to the whirlpool for about 15 minutes and then 2 laps in the pool and back to the whirlpool for another 5 minutes.
