This year's Memorial Day we celebrated over Judy's house.  Too much delicious food!  The company was great too and everyone had a great time.

Luke's 10th Birthday

We had a great time celebrating Luke's 10th Birthday.  It's always nice when the family gets together. The kids are getting so big too fast.
Food was great.  The guys played horse shoes and the rest was just relaxing.  It was good.

Back home

We got home Friday late afternoon.  Unpacked the fridge and had a beer with the neighbors.  The next day I took Elisabeth to her riding lessons, while Chrissy was in the city to see a play and Dennis was with Luke at the Lacrosse Tournament.  Luke's team won all four games and the now are the champions.!  Yay!
Elisabeth did very well with her riding lessons.  So proud, she looks great on the horse.  Ava wanted to come with us to watch Elisabeth.

What a gorgeous country we live in!

Walked with Kia to the water this morning again.  Can’t see enough of this pretty lake.   Then a quick trip to Walmart….well, quick here means a 20+ mile ride.  It took us 35+ miles to get home because we took back roads, trying to get lost on purpose.  So many pretty country road and tobacco fields all over.  We love riding without a goal, trying to get lost.  Thank God for the GPS that always brings us back home, no matter how hard we try.

Pow Wow

Today we drove to Chase City to attend a Native Indian POW Wow.  It was truly different and very interesting.  I even met the Chief in person.  There also were a lot of stands.  Some with original Indian crafts and some that you could clearly see were fakes.  All in all a nice day and if it wouldn’t have been so very cold, we would even have stayed a little longer.  It was an experience.

Boyndton re-visited

We took another ride to Boyndton.  Not only to visit the library, but I also wanted to take some pictures.  It is a very tine, yet real pretty town.  There were hardly any people on the road, never mind pedestrians.  We drove back to the campground to have lunch and just chillax.

Friday the 13th

When I took Kia for her morning walk, I decided to take a look how high the water still is.  It receded somewhat, but it still is pretty high.  The road I walked is on the other side of that little cemetery.  I reported about that earlier and at that point I didn’t see the sign that explains that there once was a chapel behind the cemetery.  Lot of history here.
We finally made it to downtown Boydton.  After a trip to Clarksville to catch some WiFi at the library and a visit to the Food Lion, we stopped at the library in Boydton to check it out.  The town itself is very quaint and the library, even though small, is very nice.  We decided to go there again on our next trip.  Not just to get WiFi, but also to walk through the very small downtown.  It’s a nice picture opportunity.
Back at the campground another huge beetle visited us.  About an inch and a half in size or so, but different than the ‘Click Beetle’ that we saw the other day.

Super Walmart

Why is our Walmart to disgusting?  Really…we traveled all over the country and haven’t found a single Walmart that is so horrible than our Walmart in Toms River.  We went to the Walmart in South Hill VA today and it was a pleasure to browse and shop.  The people were pleasant and helpful.
We also went to McDonald’s again to get some WiFi.
When we got home, we had a yummy steak dinner.

Fishing at the dam

The other side of the dam is by far more interesting.  We watched the anglers today and boy did they catch some fish!  We stayed a while and chatted with some of the fisher men.
On the way back to the camper we stopped at the visitor center and enjoyed a pretty view.
At the camper I took a few shots of our resident Blue Jay.

Another ride

The weather wasn’t too bad today.  No rain and warm enough.  When I walked Kia, I took a few pictures of the tent sites.  They are right by the water and if you look close, you can see how high the water still is.  They sure had enough rain.  Here are quite a few vultures too.
We took another ride this afternoon and I have to say that there is not much to see in the area.  Lots of farm land and the only exciting part of this ride was a few grazing steers or bulls.
Funny thing, we are so close to the North Carolina border that we kept going from state to state.

Mother's Day

We are 14 miles away from everything.  So what to do?  We turned on the GPS and searched for a restaurant the might serve breakfast and the first on that popped up was Cracker Barrel.  I should have remembered that last time we had breakfast at the Cracker Barrel in Bloomsburg PA.  That was for my birthday last year and we didn’t like it at all.  I have no idea what made me thing this time will be better?  We would have been better of eating at McDonald’s.  Seriously!
After breakfast, we did go to McDonald’s to catch some Wifi and then back to the campsite where we chilled the rest of the day.
We had an ugly visitor.  Even though I hate all kinds of bugs and other insects, there are times when they fascinate me.  This huge flying ‘thing’ landed first on the awning.  Peter got it down onto the picnic table.  I got a few pretty good shots, but I still don’t know what kind of bug it is.

Clarksville yard sale

Clarksville had a town wide yard sale. It wasn’t much, but it was a day out.  The sun was warm and after we were done browsing, we decided that we want to eat pizza on the way back to the camper.  The pizza was good and with it we enjoyed a mug of Blue Moon beer.   Still not quite ready to continue back to the camper.  We stopped at the dam.  It was very interesting.  We met a volunteer (Mary) who loves full time in her van camper across from our campsite.  She is a freelance writer and that is how she has some extra income.  Expenses she has very little, just food and her data card.
While at the dam, we also met people that were doing something very similar to Geo Caching.  They called it AtlasQuest and instead of leaving a little trinket like in Geo Caching, you have a stamp and stamp a little notepad.  They just found the location of a little box that was place by a fellow hobbyist there 2015.

Moving day

Today we moved to North Bend for the next two weeks.  This campground is awesome.  We even have somewhat of a TV reception.  Yay!  Telephone is sluggish, but it’ll do in an emergency.

Joy ride
Great day for a ride through the country.  We drove all over and checked out the area. We must have driven at least 50+ miles or maybe even more.  It was great. We crossed the NC border a couple of time.   This Lake Kerr is huge!  So pretty, no matter where you go and lots of boar ramps.

5/5
Library time
It’s raining cats and dogs.  After the library we went to a restaurant called “The Lamplighter”.  It was recommended to us by a handful of people and instead of going Sunday for Mother’s day when it is too crowded, we decided to try it.  We didn’t order a big meal, just a sandwich.  It was real good. I treated myself to a Bloody Mary.  Instead of celery they put in a pickled string bean.  It was actually very good.

It also still raining and cold!  It was raining the whole night….heavy most of the time.  The sun does try to peak through and then it rains again.  It rained so much, that the lake raised about 3 to four feet.  I took a picture before and after at the same spot.

Sunny and a run to the library

Yay, it is nice out side and as soon as our Wifi time in the library is done, we'll got outside and enjoy the sun!  Even Kia is anxious.

Can you say ‘Solitaire’?

Rain, cool and not very nice.  That is how one would describe this day. So what to do?  No even nice enough to take a ride.  So we payed computer games most of the day….until our ass hurt from sitting.  I took a little walk with Kia during a ‘dry-spell’.  Movie at night and off to bed after a totally wasted day.
