New Year's Eve Day

What a wonderful day it was.  We took a ride to Island Beach State Park in hope to find a snow owl.  Well, no such a luck, but it was still nice.  We ended the day with dinner at the Fortune Buffet.

I am comparing

2005 Chrysler 300C
Sometimes things are mind-boggling....especially when you get old.  So we bought the new car yesterday and now we are trying to remember when we had the last Chrysler.  When this happens, I always look at my pictures which are neatly stored in folders by year and then month.
We bought the prior Chrysler 2005.  I loved the car and then, when we bought the 5th wheel in 2008, we traded it in for the 2500 Dodge Ram truck that pulled our 5th wheel.
Here is a November 2005 picture of the car and our van camper.  We took the van camper around the whole country in 2005 and 2006.  It was awesome.  Then we traded in the car for the truck, sold the van camper and got our first 5th wheel.

New car

We looked two day for the right car and finally found one that had the right price.  It is a Chrysler 300.  We had one in 2006 and loved it.

Christmas Eve

Like every year for many years now, we celebrated Christmas Eve over Tammy's house in a German tradition.  On Christmas day, the kids visit the in-laws and this way no-one's feelings are hurt.  I like it this way.  Tammy cooked a delicious ham dinner with all the works.  Anna baked a cake and of course the famous cookies were on the table too.

Grounds for Sculpture

Life goes on.  We went to take our friends from Germany to see our favorite place: "Grounds for Sculpture" in Hamilton NJ.
Rudi was like a kid in a toy store.  It truly is an amazing place.

Oops

Monday was a pretty bad day for us.  We had company from Germany (Rudi & Katrin) and we wanted to drive to the outlets in Tinton Falls.  Well, it all went a different way.....we were in Brick on Hooper Avenue to first do some other business and got involved into an accident.  Everyone was fine, except the truck, which was pretty much damaged and I got quite a few bruises.  Katrin, Rudi and Peter were OK.  We went to get a rental and my computer was fixed at the place in the Hooper/Rt. 37 U-turn.

It's been a while....

I can't post anything when nothing is going on.  We are getting ready for the trip.  Last minute stuff like Drs appointments, hair cuts, Kia's grooming, and, and, and....
Christ will be here before we know it.
Yesterday was Ava's Christmas concert.  It was very nice.  It's Ava's last concert in Elementary school.  Next year she'll be in middle school.

Peter's 74th Birthday celebration

It was nice.  We celebrated Sunday.  I cooked chili and it turned out to be darn good.  I also baked....a bread, an apple streusel and a cherry streusel cake.  Got a cheese cake from Aldi and Tammy brought a vegan cheese cake for Ava.  The apple cake was vegan too.  There was plenty food for everyone....I attempted to bake mozzarella sticks, but they didn't come out good.  The egg rolls were decent, no dairy in them as well.  With Ava's eosinophilic esophagitis it is often difficult and you got to read every single label to make sure nothing contains milk, or any milk products, like whey, etc.
We had a nice time and everyone left around 8pm.

Peter's actual Birthday

Now this was exciting!  It was a gorgeous 70 degrees day and Peter's birthday.  We decided to take a ride to the beach, to be exact Island Beach S.P.  When we got there we saw some military choppers in the air and noticed that the had practices at the beach today. I took a few pictures.  Unfortunately they were against the sun, but they still aren't too bad.

Tear Drop Monument

It was a great day to take another little trip.  We took a ride to Bayonne to finally see the Tear Drop Monument.
This monument located in New Jersey across the river from the scene of the 9-11 attack was donated to the United States from Russia. We are just now learning of this monument as the media said nothing about it. It was dedicated on September 11, 2006. Fox News did not talk about it neither did CNN or MSNBC in the mainstream media.

“Nobody ever comes here,” says a taxi driver about the The 100-ft tall, 175-ton memorial. Vladimir Putin was there when construction began and Bill Clinton attended the dedication ceremony in 2006. Since then, it has been forgotten.
“The monument in this picture, officially entitled “To the Struggle Against World Terrorism” (but also known as “The Memorial at Harbor View Park” or the “Tear Drop Memorial”), was dedicated at the northeast corner of Bayonne Peninsula in New Jersey on 11 September 2006, the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the United States.
The monument was the work of Russian artist Zurab Tsereteli, whose inspiration was described thusly in a brochure about the monument:

“To the Struggle Against World Terrorism” was conceived as the events of 9/11 unfolded and Russian artist Zurab Tsereteli walked the streets of Moscow. Struck by the outpouring of grief he observed, a memorial with an image of a tear formed in his mind. Shortly after the attacks, Tsereteli visited ground zero and looked to
New Jersey’s waterfront for an appropriate site for a monument honoring victims of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks.
Bayonne was a fitting location; the city was an arrival point for many New York City evacuees on 9/11, a staging area for rescuers, and offered a direct view of the Statue of Liberty and the former World Trade Center towers.
A gift from Tsereteli and the Russian people, the memorial is made of steel sheathed in bronze. Standing 100 feet high, its center contains a jagged tear. In it hangs a 40-foot stainless steel teardrop, representing sadness and grief over the loss of life, but also hope for a future free from terror. Etched in granite on an 11-sided base are the names of the nearly 3,000 killed in the 1993 World Trade Center bombings and terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Senior Trip to Johnson's Corner Farm

It's  very similar to the Delicious Orchards.  We participated in a Hay ride, and I even harvested some broccoli and picked some apples.  I tried (for the first time) a apple cider doughnut.  It was very good, but it doesn't beat out Ob-Co's Donuts in Toms River.  There was really not enough to see in the hours were were supposed to be there.  The bus left earlier than usual, which was fine with everyone.  All in all though, a very enjoyable day.  The gorgeous weather helped to make it great.

Allaire State Park

Allaire State Park is just about 45 minutes away from our house.  We've been there many times. Today was a perfect day to take a ride there and we noticed that a lot of people had the same idea.  It wasn't the first time we went there.  As a matter of fact, we visited the park pretty often throughout our life time.  It's a pretty park in every season.

Trick or Treat

We had a nice time watching the kids trick or treating over Tammy and Dan's house.  It was nice, but the best part was the squash soup that Anna cooked.  It was real delicious.  She also cooked chili, but I didn't have any because we ate dinner already.

Anna

Yesterday night was the homecoming dance for Central Regional high school.  Our Anna had a great time and needless to say, she looked absolutely beautiful!  So proud of her.

Cape May Zoo

Today I went to the Cape May Zoo on this Thursday's bus trip.  None of my neighbors wanted to go, but I was looking forward to this trip and I am glad I went.  The weather was close to perfect, but a little sun would have helped. However, I was just happy that it didn't rain and that it it was warm.

Sleep Apnea

Who would have thought that I have to get a Cpap!  I received a 'At home sleep study test kit".
A home sleep test (HST) is a sleep study tool that is used for the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea. Most HST devices are portable – about the size of a telephone handset.
They usually measure the following biologic parameters:
Nasal and Oral Airflow – by thin wire that is taped by the nose and mouth – some sensors look like an oxygen cannula.
Respiratory Effort – by elastic belt bands that are placed across the chest and abdomen.
Oxymeter Finger Probe – a small clip-like device that attaches to the finger tip and emits a red light that assists in the evaluation of oxygen levels in the blood while sleeping.
Let me tell you, with this thing on you, you really don't get the best sleep.  Anyway, it did turn out that I have sleep apnea and was told that I have to do an overnight sleep study with the Cpap.
I had to drive to the Deborah Sleep Center.  The room I stayed in was like a hotel room with walk-in closet and it's own bathroom with shower.
Once I was in my PJs the technician came a put all kinds of wires on my head, face, and even the legs.  The where attached to the wall and this way he could monitor from his office how everything went.  In Bed, I also had to wear the Cpap mask.  That wasn't really too bad, but the mattress and the pillows where horrible!  Needless to say, I really didn't get more than about 5 hours sleep with a bathroom trip in between.  For that I had to call the technician to 'un-hook' me.
Around 5:28am I woke up on my own and not even 2 seconds later, the technician came in and said: "I saw that you are awake."  With that he took off all my wires, I got dressed and left.  I was home while it was still dark outside, around 6:30am.
Oh, in case anyone is wondering.....no breakfast, not even coffee.  Needless to say that I stopped at the next WaWa right after I left Deborah.

The kitchen

What can I say.....daughter asked what color will your kitchen be?  My answer was, a beige, or a type of eggshell.  So she says...go for some color, like a sage or so.
My front room is sage.  I didn't want the same color, but maybe something similar.  So off to Home Depot to pick up the paint.  I looked at the paper samples and one greenish color looked nice.  So, that is what we picked.
The first stroke went on the wall after the ceiling was done in white.  WOW..... it sure looked different than I expected.  No way does it resemble sage or even anything close to it.
OK...so I told myself to calm down and wait until it's done.
Once the curtains were up and everything else was in its place, it actually looked nice.  It's an aqua color....kind of the color that one would paint a kitchen in Bermuda, or any of the tropical islands.

Atlantic City

Today was absolutely gorgeous!  The Thursday senior trip this week went to Atlantic city.  It was a 100% perfect day!  I walked almost the whole boardwalk and yes...I can feel it tonight.  It was totally worth it though.  I even dropped some money and lost $4.  Yes, that's right....just four and that is because I hate losing money.
I went for a slice of pizza and then it was time to go back to the bus.

Sunday - fun day

First we went to see Ava's soccer game.  It was the best game ever and they won 4:2 to top it off.  Ava was the goalie today, because their regular one was sick.  She totally rocked!

After the games we went to the Lacey Elks for Elktoberfest.  It was actually pretty nice. We had a beer and ordered Thueringer Bratwurst with Sauerkraut and potato pancakes.  The wurst was good and so was the kraut.  The pancakes was nothing to brag about. All in all though, it was a nice affair.  We listened to some German music played by a live band.  The band members and some dancers were dressed in their 'Lederhosen and Dirndl'.

Tony Orlando

We went to see Tony Orlando at the PNC Art Center yesterday.  It was pretty awesome!  Many people might remember seeing him as "Tony Orlando and Dawn".  The Art Center was crowded and the music was great with a special appearance of one of the original Duprees.  I didn't get his name. :-(
