Polar Bear Plunge for the Special Olympics

Brrrr…it was COLD!  I didn't go in the water, but I was right there among all the people that participated.  I was barefoot so that I could get closer and just in case a wave gets me.  My feet were pure ice blocks but it was well worth it.  There were about 10,000 all together and approximately 5,000 swimmers.  It was awesome!

When does it end?

We woke up to another snow fall.  Even though I am really tired of the snow, I have to admit, that it looked real pretty this morning.

Anna’s 14th Birthday Party

Anna’s Birthday is actually on the 13th, but it was just easier to do it on a Saturday.  We had a nice time with Family and good food.

Back home

The trip from Emporia VA to home went smooth.  No snow, just sunshine and some clouds.

On our way home

We started our way home.  We left yesterday.  It was sunny and gorgeous.  This morning started out a bit on the cooler side (42 degrees) and the further North we drove, the colder it got.  Then in South Carolina it started snowing and it went from bad to worse.  We are now at a campground in Emporia VA.  Tomorrow morning we are going to try to beat the snow storm that is brewing along our way.

Our last little walk in the park

One last sunny day.  This is unfortunately our last day here in this gorgeous state park.  So sad to leave, but also happy to come home and see the family, especially the grandkids.

Can’t get enough of the gators!

Today we took a walk to the river.  There weren’t as many gators as usual, but it was nice anyway.  No sun today, yet warm enough to wear just a t-shirt.  The rest of the day was R&R. It is too bad that we have to leave here in two day.  I would love to stay a lot longer.

Olav and Karin

Wow….what a great time we had!  My nephew and wife are vacationing in Fort Myers and came to visit us for the day.  We explored the park in the morning.  After lunch we drove to Siesta Beach.  Just like two years ago when we were there, we were once again amazed how beautiful this beach was.  Unfortunately it was very foggy.  However, that didn’t keep us for at least walking in the power sugar like sand and in the waters of the Gulf od Mexico.
Back at the camper we had dinner and dessert and then Olav and Katrin left to drive back to their hotel.

Sun-N-Fun Resort

We went to visit our new friends at their resort.  Besides having a great time with Joe and Marianne we were impressed with the resort.  Indoor pool, hot tub, heated outdoor pool, games, restaurant, bar…..too many amenities to mention.  Of course their monthly rate is accordingly.  It was very nice though.

80 degrees…..time for a walk!

As yesterday, the first morning walk with Kia was in the fog.  It does look pretty awesome.  The vulchers were waiting for their pray.  Mid morning, while sitting outside, Kia had a little visitor.  Her name is Chelsea.  Cute little Bichon.  The afternoon was awesome (who doesn’t like 80 degrees) and we decided to take a walk to discover different areas of the park we haven’t even seen yet.

Foggy morning

After a night with hardly any sleep we called the vet and she was able to squeeze us in.  Kia was up almost every hour last night and you could see that she didn’t feel good at all.  Poor baby. The vet took a stool sample, checked her out thoroughly, hydrated her and sent us home with pills, two cans of a bland diet and a bill for $117.19.  A few hours later Kia started to feel better and she ate and drank.  This was the first time that she was real sick and it really scared us.
The Vet’s office was very nice and the staff, including the vet was very nice.  While waiting, quite a few beautiful dogs came in.  Two of them a pair of Portuguese Water dogs, both female, one was pregnant.
We had to kill a little time before we took the ride to the vet and drove to the water. It was a very foggy morning and the lake looked outright eerie.  As always, the vulchers were hanging around waiting for whatever.  There was a hawk in the tree posing for me and once again I was mad that I didn't have a tri-pod with me.   I got some decent pictures anyway, but they would have been clearer if they were taken with a tri-pod.
