New Years Eve Day

It was a gorgeous (but cold) day today and we decided to take a ride.  I fist wanted to go to Island Beach S.P., but figured that’s it’s even colder there so we went to Smithville instead and followed up with Edwin B. Forsythe park.  It was a great day!

Happy New Year everyone!

December sun

Debby, Barbara and I spent some time at the Island Height’s boardwalk and the weather couldn’t have been more beautiful.  I didn’t find a lot of subjects today.  Gotta change photo shoot locations. LOL

Ginny’s house

We can’t stop partying!  Christmas day and everyone alone?  No way!  Ginny had us all over and we were having a real great time.  Delicious snacks from dips to cakes……and the tiramisu….to die for!  Never mind the pretty wreath cake!  We never got a chance to even eat it, because there was so much food!

Christmas Eve 2014

Thank you Tammy for once again hosting Christmas Eve.  As always it was great and it was fun watching the kids opening their presents.  We had Chinese food for dinner and Black Forest Cherry Cake and assorted home made cookies for dessert.

Debby’s party

We had another great get-to-gether with good friends and neighbors.  Pizza, snacks, drinks, great conversation and lots of laughs.

Anna’s concert

What a great concert it was!  It was beautiful and VERY professional.  I truly enjoyed it.  Too bad that Peter was sick and he didn’t feel like going.

Ava’s Christmas Concert

What a great performance the 4th grade chorus of the Bayville school gave.  Just beautiful!

Elisabeth’s 7th Birthday

Our little baby granddaughter is 7!!!  She had a great birthday party.  11 girls making and decorating ginger bread houses, but not before they designed their own little aprons to wear for the occasion.  Pizza and cup cakes and a yummy punch.  It truly was fun for everyone.

Had a nice time with the girls substituting at Bunco over Dee’s house.  We had a grab bag and lots of food.  It was great but…. I have such a terrible cold and I was miserable.  I haven’t had a cold like this in a long time.

Just a little update….

Nothing much exciting happened.  We are ready for Christmas and I am a little sad that we are staying home this winter.

Anna joined the swim team at her high school and she is really enjoying it.

Ava has a few digestive problems and the Drs. ordered a colonoscopy as well as an endoscopy.  We are waiting for the results.  Poor Ava, while she was under, the hose they used to look inside the colon was causing some pretty bad bleeding and they kept her over night for observation.  The procedure was done at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, so she was in good hands.

Tree’s up!

Because we are staying home this winter, we decided it is time again to get the tree from the attic and decorate it.  It does look so pretty and gives a nice atmosphere.  I also a fresh little Elf living with us.  I think that she arrived at the wrong house, because there aren’t any kids around in our senior village, but I think it’s the cutest thing, despite all the mischief it gets into.

Anna’s 1st High School Swim Meet

Today was Anna’s first swim meet.  The opposite team was Toms River East.  Central was great!  They have some awesome swimmers.  Anna was doing good too.  Love going there….but those bleachers…Peter and my backs don’t handle them very well.

Thanksgiving came and went.  It’s always too short, but it has to be my favorite holiday besides Halloween and Christmas.  Dennis and Chrissy hosted once again a great Thanksgiving dinner and everyone had a wonderful time.

Peter’s 72nd Birthday

We had a nice time. The kids were here and we had pizza and apple pie for dessert.

Winding River Park

Boy, my feet hurt.  It was a great walk at Winding River Park though.  Love the Children Memorial Park.  Got to do this more often to get back into shape.  Ran into Kerstin and her Cuxi while we were there.

Grounds for Sculpture

Today was the second time we went to see Grounds for Sculpture and discovered many new sculptures and older ones that we missed last year.   When we were there last year, some of the sculptures had running water, like that lady in the shower and the one that sits down to pee, and the the Monet bridge was covered in a foggy mist.  I guess they shut it all off for the Winter.  It still was awesome and the park itself is so gorgeous.  The leaves where still very colorful.  It was just a perfect day.  I hope you enjoy the pictures and maybe one day you can visit Grounds for Sculpture too.  It is well worth it.  Lunch in their caf├ę was decent, but I think the next time I would like to spurge and try their ‘Rats’ restaurant.

We got back from the Elisabeth’s and Luke’s school Halloween parade. All the kids were cute and needless to say, the cutest ones (of course) were Luke and Elisabeth. The parade was at 9:35am.

Off the the next parade at 1:45pm.  This one is for Ava.  The sky looked dreary and it got pretty chilly too. Those poor kids in their customs were freezing.  Still fun though!

At 5pm we went to Tammy’s.  Great food, nice company and fun kids.  I had Kia with me and couldn’t really take a lot of pictures.  Got the cutest three girls together for a few photos.

Sandy Hook and Twin Light

What a gorgeous fall day it was today.  We actually wanted to drive to the Ground for Sculptures, but they are closed on Mondays.  I am glad we went to Sandy Hook instead.  It was nice and finally, after many years saying: “I want to go to the Twin Lights one day”, we made it.  It was very nice and never mind the Twin Lights….the view from up there is beautiful!

Time to say ‘so long’

Petra and Marcel are leaving tomorrow so we went over to Tammy’s to say good bye.  We didn’t stay long because it was an unplanned visit.

This nice buck was in our back yard:

Busy day

Busy, but fun!  In the morning we went to Ava’s soccer game which started out awesome, because they shot the first goal and then all went down hill….4-1 for the Toms River team.  All in all a good game though and our Ava did awesome.  The fist half hour she was a goalie and then she played defense.

The Halloween parade was at 7pm and it’s been a few years that we have been there.  Thank God it was warm!  We had a good time, especially since our Luke was participating in it.  His Boy’s Scout Troop came dressed as the people in the Mindcraft game.  Good job!

Petra and Marcel

Today we had the pleasure to have a great day in Atlantic City with my cousin’s daughter Petra and her son Marcel. We didn’t gamble.  Just walked a little on the boardwalk and Petra got here feet wet.  We ended the day with dinner at the Golden Coral.  It wasn’t really that great.  Peter and I were a little disappointed.  The quality wasn’t as good as we are accustomed to.

Dennis’s 41st Birthday

We had a wonderful time at Dennis’s birthday.  I can not believe that Dennis is 41 years old.  it seems like he was just a toddler.

Island Heights

The day couldn’t have been more gorgeous.  Debby drives every day to Island Heights to walk her two miles on the boardwalk. Today I joined her and let me tell you…..I give Debby credit.  I tried….gave up after a mile and took some pictures. Smile

No shit!

I am going to tell you about my evening, whether you want to read it or not.
Toilet over flowed, bathtub filled up with gross stuff....mopping water from over flowed toilet....YUK! Thank god there was no, you know what!!
Plunging didn't help! Called the sewer company and they were here within an hour. Kudos to the Berkeley Township Sewer Co. you wanna know the reason for the blockage right? Well, JCP&L did some work here and looky here....the idiots drilled a hole into our sewer pipe, despite the fact that it was clearly marked and that flushed sand in the pipe and blocked everything. It's not fixed yet....tomorrow they'll be back. At least they flushed the sand out and we can 'very carefully' use the john. Gheez!!!

10/9 Follow up…..all fixed and everything flows again. Smile

Back home for the winter

I will miss the mountains and the forests, but it is good to be home again.  We weren’t even home an hour and got greeted by our herd.

Mifflinburg Oktoberfest

One of our camping neighbors told us about the Oktoberfest in Mifflinburg.  Needless to say that I felt we had to go there.  I was in the mood for a huge mug of Weizenbier.  Well… can imagine our disappointment when we went to the fair grounds in Mifflinburg and there were only a handful booth, one beer stand where you had to buy the mug to get a beer.  The small 12 ounce plastic mug was $8.  Since I already was disappointed about the whole affair, never mind the food, I wasn’t going to buy the beer and neither did Peter want one.  We left and went shopping in Selinsgrove and then back to Elysburg to eat dinner at Ponduce Farm.

Covered Bridge Festival

We had a great time!  It was amazing how many vendors there were. There were a lot of great artist and yummy food stands.  From fish cakes to funnel cakes and of course, there was ice cream too.  We had a prime rib sandwich and it was real good.  The plan for tomorrow is to drive to Mifflinburg for their Oktoberfest.

Rain, rain go away….

It was raining cats and dogs this afternoon.  I was hoping for some sun, because I wanted to go out an take some pretty fall pictures.  The foliage is really starting to look gorgeous.  After the rain stopped, I did get a chance to take a few pictures when I took Kia for her walk.

Sunset in Fall

Boy what a pretty evening tonight…..

Saturday, September 27, 2014

Fall arrived

It was gorgeous today and we decided to take a ride through the country side.  We passed by the Red Deer Farm where you can take a hay ride and admire all the pretty deer.  We didn’t take advantage of it, because we have all the deer that we want to see right in our back yard.  The leafs are starting to turn and everyplace you drive through has already beautiful colors.  I can’t help but being sad that we soon have to leave here.  I love this part of the country.  What’s not to love….look at the pictures.

Frogs and steaks

Yesterday was a gorgeous day and while we were sitting by the fire something jumped into the water.  Curious, I walked up with my camera, hoping to catch a good picture of any frog by the lake side.
I didn't even know he was there! I heard it 'flop' and thought....oh well, he's gone.  I just took the picture with my 300mm lens hoping that I'll see him through the water some the meantime the little bastard was watching me, hiding behind that stone! Saw him after I took to picture of my camera.

Today was shopping day.  First to Wally World to get necessities and then to Masser’s meat market to get some steaks.  While there we got some fresh sausage and smoked pork chops.  The steaks were, as always AWESOME!  Look at the size of one of them.

Covered Bridge and PP&L Montour Preserve

It was a gorgeous day today.  We decided to take a ride and let the GPS do its job.  We first passed a covered bridge and of course I had to take a picture of the bridge.  There is something about covered bridges.
When I put in Point of Interest nearby parks, we ended up in Montour Preserve, about 24 miles from the campground.  We we were really surprised how beautiful this park is.  We walked around a little and and enjoyed the view over the lake.  On the way home we passed by the power plant,  It is a coal fired plant, but it almost looks like a nuclear plant.

A wonderful day

We spend a great day over Leslie’s and Henry’s today.  Thanks so much!!  We had a wonderful time!  Even Kia enjoyed her day there and her first boat ride ever.

Central Park

43 years after I visited Central Park the first time, I went today.  Debby and I had a great time admiring this wonderful park.  We planned on walking the whole park, but realized when we were half through that we can’t make it.  I didn’t know that Central Park is that huge.  So we did half and hopefully we can do the other half the next time we drive into the city.
We walked back towards Port Authority and had a place of Nachos and a Weizenbeer at the Beer Authority across the street from the bus terminal.  We finished our snack and then walked to B&H Photo.  That place is a nut house!  It was very – very big.
Walking back to the bus station, but not without going to “Rudy’s Bar and Grill” for a beer.
Back on the bus with feet that are killing me!

So sad….

I am sorry to post that today the daughter of our oldest and best friends from Germany passed away.  Christiane, may she rest in peace.

Excellent day

We had an excellent day.  The sun was out.  No humidity, not too hot….just perfect!  After hanging out a little we took a ride to Knoebels to take a walk and boy was it crowded.  The parking lot was filled to the rim.  Despite all the people there, it really didn’t seem all that crowded in the park itself.  I love walking in the amusement park.  You see all kind of people…..and I mean ALL kind of people.  It was real nice though and they even had a car show there. Not Antiques, just fixed up cars.  It was cool.
Went back about an hour and a half later to eat and have a glass of Moscato and ice cream for dessert.  Life is good.
