Karate kid

I went to see Tammy and family yesterday and it was pretty busy.  Peter stayed home. Tammy had to bring Anna to her soccer game and I took Ava to her karate lessons.  Once we all were back home, we all had pizza from Shady Rest. Oh boy…I had bad pizzas in my lifetime and it’s been a long lifetime so far….but this pizza was the worst pizza I EVER had!!  Really! Dominos and Papa Johns  pizzas taste like luxuries compared to the pizza from Shady’s Rest in Bayville.Karate Kid 2011-09-28 003Karate Kid 2011-09-28 002Karate Kid 2011-09-28 001

Today, we had Dennis, Chrissy and kids over and we also had a great time with them.  For dinner I cooked an old fashioned pot-roast with red cabbage and spaetzle.  It was pretty good and for dessert, Chrissy baked a delicious apple cake.  We had a great time and I forgot to take pictures.

So long…

All good things must come to an end.  The Hummels left the campground this morning and we also decided to leave.  The weather wasn’t good and we figured that it is time to come home.  Before Paul and Judy left, we took a few pictures and said our good byes….well, better, so longs…I guess.

Dinner at BJ’s

We had a relaxing afternoon, followed by yummy dinner at dinner at BJs.  Their steaks are great and you’d never leave with an empty stomach.  Back at the campsite we ended the day with an evening by the fire.

Old timers

We saw something today that we haven’t seen since the 70ties.  We saw a car pulling a camper.  We camped in the 70ties and early 80ties and we did pull our trailer with a car.  However, the last 20+ years, that picture vanished.  The cars weren’t as powerful anymore and people pulled their trailers with vans, pick-ups or very powerful cars like a Suburban, etc.
Anyway, I thought that this was totally weird, when the car pulled in with a trailer in the back. misc 2011-09-19 001

We had a nice day today.  Judy and Paul arrived and were able to park right next to us.misc 2011-09-19 004misc 2011-09-19 003

Had great friends over…

We all actually were supposed to visit Deb and Pud, but decided against it, because Peter wasn’t really feeling good yet.  So we told Leslie and Henry that we are not drive up to Deb and Pud’s place and because they wanted to spend some time with us, they came and visited us instead.  It worked out great and we had a real nice time.  We’ll see our friends Deb and Pud this week when Peter feels better.  We had a few burgers, some sausages and dessert was home-made shoofly pie.  Good job Leslie, it was delicious!  (Need the recipe!

Peter had a real bad night and hopefully it’ll get better soon.  We’ve been hanging out at the camper for the last two days and are watching Nora Roberts movies….one after the other on Lifetime.  (Thank God for Cable)
Just read on Facebook that Fantasy Island doesn’t open up for the rest of the season.  We are glad we are here.  I don’t know what would have happened to us, because we are staying for the month.  I wonder if we would have gotten part of our money back.
We were sitting outside when a rental camper came in…two girls, one woman and a man.  All a little over dressed for camper and socks in sandals.  That is always a dead give-away for German folks.misc 2011-09-17 003

A few days ago I read about this new flavor from Benn & Jerry’s Ice Cream.  It is called “Schweddy Balls” and it sounds heavenly.misc 2011-09-17 002

It is a limited edition and just had to get it.  It is going to be my treat tonight.

Good times

We went to ‘Camp-a-while’ in Hegins today to visit Judy and Paul.  Bill and Sue were there too and we had a great time.  Kia and her brothers were happy to see each other and all in all it was a wonderful afternoon.  We took home the back roads and saw the prettiest sunset.  What a nice ending for a perfect day.Camp-a-while 2011-09-13 002

Just chillin’

That is all we did today….absolutely nothing.  Most of the day was cloudy anyway, so we watched TV most of the day and later, when the sun came out, we sat outside a little.  We had two visitors.  Mr. Chipmunk came fist and then came Wayne with 6 Shih Tzus and one Bichon.  They are too cute!misc 2011-09-11 003misc 2011-09-11 001 Dinner was pork roast with sauerkraut and potatoes.

The aftermath

We took a ride to Sunbury today to see the island and our old campground at which we were seasonal campers at for 3 years.  We also went to see how the Social Club survived.  It looked pretty bad.  Especially the Social Club.  We were glad to see though that Timmy’s pavilion was saved.  We also went to Beiter’s parking lot where most of our old camper friends evacuated to.  We were hoping to run into some people that we know, but no-one was around.  When we passed the campground, we noticed that there were already people cleaning up.  I guess in no time it’ll business as usual.  Mr. Keller’s property looked pretty bad too.  Flood 2011-09-10 016

Horrible floods

We are back at the campground.  We were three days at the Susquehanna RV dealership and all things considered, it wasn’t that bad.  Beats sitting in some shopping center without power and WiFi.  We even had cable, thanks to Wayne, the owner of the dealership and the campground.
Right after we got back, I went to the grocery store and the beer distributor.  Boy, was I in for a surprise!  The beer store was underwater today and by the time I got there, the water in the store was gone.  However, the boxes were all wet, the Visa machine didn’t work.  Lucky me…I had some cash and was able to purchase a case of beer. The beer was not cold, but who is complaining? The parking lot was still under water.  (That meant I had to parallel park…..everyone who knows me, knows that I flunked my first driver license test doing just that and I never to the day, learned ho to parallel park.)   The grocery store was fine.  They are high and dry on the other end of townFlood 2011-09-09 014

More floods….

Well, we made it to Geisingers and back to camp (Susquehanna RV).  On the way back, we stopped at the campground to checkout the situation.  I only had my compact digital camera with me and that is why the pictures aren’t that great.  It is still raining and at this point Penns Creek is still rising 6 more feet and the Susquehanna river is supposed to have a total of 32’.  Yikes…that is scary.  Geisinger Medical Center is located in Danville and I understand that now, a few hours later, we wouldn’t have made it back to the camper.

Yikes…Penns Creek that is in the back of our campsite, is supposed to flood the whole campground tonight trough tomorrow.PennsCreek

I feel sorry for the campers at our old seasonal campground in Sunbury.  We are able to stay at the campground’s owner’s RV dealership with WiFi, 30 amp, and cable.  If we still would be seasonals in Sunbury, we wouldn’t have been this fortunate.  There really is no place to go that offers the amenities that we have.Sunbury
