Those darn Canadian geese…

I wish that Canada would take back their geese.  They poop on our lawn and are loud.  There was one on the roof of my neighbor’s house today and it was yipping and yapping.  No matter what I did, it didn’t fly away.  Kia went bunkers and barked, we tried everything to make her go and nothing worked.  I gave up and later she was gone anyway.

My Renovation Project

Our house has a little, den-type, room as you walk into the front door.  For years I used this room as my office.  I did some desktop publishing, as well as photo restoration and I am done with it.  I decided to get rid of everything in that the little front room and turn it into what it was meant to be – a den.  I know it’ll take me a few months to finish this project, but it’ll get done eventually.  I started to clean out the first two cabinets, the next item cleaned out will be a shelf and then comes the huge task…..THE DESK!   The PC goes, as I only use my laptop and netbook anyway.  Today I took a few pictures from before and as we go further, I’ll post the progress.  It is especially messy right now and looks very overwhelming to me, but I’ll be damned if I don’t get this done!  Once the room is empty, Peter will paint it for me and the rest is the fun part.

Update: Good news...

Anna and Ava went to school today and are feeling much better.  Poor babies, the really went through the mill last week....never mind the parents with all those worries.  All is better now and we are hoping it stays that way.
I talked to Chrissy today and the other two babies, Luke and Elisabeth are doing just fine.  We are going to see them tomorrow night. :-)

Neighborhood party

Great neighborhood St. Patrick's Day party!  As always at our get-to-gethers, the food was DELISCIOUS and plenty.  Lots of talking, laughing and eating going on.  It started around 5:30 pm and we left about 10 pm.  Kia greeted us at the door, like she’d say: “It’s about time you two get your butt home.”  It was a nice evening and I am glad that we have a bunch of fun neighbors that we are friends with.

Nice afternoon

We went out for lunch today to the Fortune Buffet with our friends Gerda and Hans.  Great food – great company.  After lunch we headed to our house and started out with a couple ‘after lunch cocktails’ and later dessert.

    BFF–in sickness and in health

We have a little sick patient here today.  Ava was sitting in the lunch room at school yesterday and with all the noise and the kids around her, she fell asleep while having her lunch break.  Peter picked her up from school and she slept at our house until Dan picked her up around 5:30 pm.  At home, after she was in bed already, she vomited.  Now she is spending the day here until about 1 pm, after which time I’ll drive her to her pediatrician. She seems fine for now, but doesn’t want to eat.  She drank a bottle of PediaSure.  At least she got some nutrition in her.

On a sad note, just found out that Elizabeth Taylor passed away today.  Another great legend gone.  R.I.P.

    New York, New York!

Debby, Annegret and I went to the New York City for a day.  As usual when we visit New York, we took the bus.  It was a nice ride.  We left 8 AM and got to the city at 9:45 AM.  From Port Authority we took the subway to the Staten Island Ferry.  We walked onto the ferry to take a ‘sight seeing’ round-trip ride.  The weather was perfect and we couldn’t have picked a better day.  After the ferry ride we walked through the World Trade Center to China Town and part of Little Italy.  From there we took the subway to 47th street and then we walked to the corner of 45th and 3rd Avenue where we had lunch at the Hofbrau Bierhaus.  The beer (we had Hefe Weizen) was absolutely the best tasting beer I had in a very long time.  The food was good too.  Needless to say that the prices were NY prices, but what the heck….you only live once.  It was that good!
After lunch we went to the Rockefeller Center and Time Square and then it was time to take the bus home.  A prefect day.

    Fantasy Island Campground

We used to have a great time in our 3 years of being seasonal campers at the little campground called “Fantasy Island Campground”.  It was like everyone was family and it felt very comfortable there.  We still have a handful of friends, that continued to be seasonal campers there and we will miss them very much.  Hopefully we can spend a month this summer in the area to see our friends.
The Susquehanna River is known to have floods once in a while and this year it was pretty bad.  One of my camper friends allowed me to use some his pictures to show you all how bad this was.  The water on the pictures below however wasn’t at the highest level at that point.  An other friend posted some pictures on Facebook which show the damage that the flood has done.   It looks pretty bad and is going to take some work to clean up the debris and mud.

    Great afternoon

We went and visited Dennis, Chrissy and the kids this afternoon.  Had a nice time and enjoyed being with the kids.  We also got a kick out of Pearl and Kia.  The got along just fine and played like puppies are supposed to play.  Pearl grew tremendously since we saw her the last time and that was only a couple of weeks ago.  She enjoyed pulling Kia by her tail and it was hilarious to watch those two play.

    St. Patrick’s day party…

Today was Tammy and Dan’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade party.  Like in all the prior years, we went to pick up the girls.  After a few drinks and some food they all left to Seaside on a rented school bus.  I think the pictures explain it all.

    Anna is fine now…

Got a call from Tammy last night that Anna was transported by ambulance to the local hospital here and she needed us to come, because once Anna would have been released, she’d need a ride home.  Dan stayed home with Ava.
    Here is what happened:
Anna was eating dinner and got up to get a glass of water and as she did that, she choked on a piece of chicken breast.  She was able to breathe, but she was choking like crazy.  Tammy dialed 911. In the ambulance they checked Anna’s oxygen level and it was very low.
The ER Doctor ordered a MRI (we found out later, that it was totally unnecessary).
Anna in the meantime coughed up two small pieces of chicken and when asked, if she still feel like something is stuck in her throat, she responded with a yes.  She was not able to swallow at all, not even her own spit or water, and she kept producing flem and had to spit it out all the time.  So the doctor in the ER suggested that a gastrologist should go inside (endoscopy).  The gastrologist was called and he told the ER physician that he does not treat children.  So now Anna had to be transferred to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ, 30 miles away.
To our surprise, she was admitted for the night and an endoscopy was scheduled for this morning.  Because she was able to breathe, it was not considered an life-threatening emergency anymore.
I found out from Tammy this morning that Anna coughed up a large piece of chicken breast around 3 am this morning.  She felt better after that, as far as I know the endoscopy is till scheduled.

Just got a call from Tammy.  Anna had the endoscopy and with that a biopsy.  There is a possibility that she has a disease called: eosinophilic esophagitis which makes sense, because Anna has quite a few food allergies.  We shall see when the results come back.   As for now, she is fine and waiting to go home.

    Good news for a change…

Got an e-Mail from Geisinger Hospital today.  Peter’ bladder washing and dna test results came back and both are normal.

    Camera club

I never thought I see the day where I would join a club.  I really am not a ‘club’ person.  However, a couple of seniors here in our development decided to create a camera club.  That got my attention and I decided to take a look-see what this all about.  Went to the first meeting today and it sounds like this is something I would be interested in.  It looks like we’ll be meeting once a month and besides regular meeting, the club will have a couple of things in between, like outings to take pictures, maybe some exhibits, and other things.
Other than the meeting today, there wasn’t much going on here.  Oh yeah, made reservations for trip to Florida next winter.
Looking forward to tomorrow, as we’ll have Anna here.  She bought herself a new iPod Touch and we’ll attempt to transfer her music from her old iPod to the new one.

Lounging around, eating snacks….life is good!

    Neighborhood watch

I know for sure that I never have to worry when something weird is going on outside our house, because we have an excellent watch dog.

    House of Care…

Again, we are staying in the House of Care.  I can not repeat often enough what a wonderful place it is.  Besides, where can you stay for $15 a night?  The place is clean and they sure make you feel very welcome.  Today they told me that a group of volunteers will come in to cook dinner for all the guests and if we like, we are  welcome to join them.  I thanked them and told them that Peter is really not feeling good and he wouldn’t be good company.  Around dinner time there was a little knock on the door and two girls (volunteers) brought a bowl of chicken soup and crackers.  Try to get his in our hospital at home.

    Just keeping in touch….

Nothing much happened.  Peter took the RV to the MVC to have it inspected.   After staying in line a while, he was told that Diesels don’t need an inspection anymore.  What a waste of time.  They could have told us that when we registered the RV.
I cleaned the house while he was done and when he got back we ate lunch.  I made potato salad and fried fish with a salad.
I spent the afternoon at the eye doctor only to find out that my prescription from ‘America’s Best’ was wrong.  No wonder I wasn’t comfortable in my glasses from them.  Got a new prescription and with the advise not to go back to ‘America’s Best’.  I won’t!
